The intercooled looked more at home if it was a coffee table, but it wasn’t it was bolted on to a 3.6l Porsche engine, and some massive turbos. The pumps for the intercooler sounded like they had been ripped from a ships bilge pumps.
This was a mad motor that had already featured in some Mags at the time, and we were lucky enough to know the mechanic doing some additional mods to it. The owner was told that we’d written someone about it, but was less than impressed by our words. It was the Max Power era, and so were our words. We dramatised the ride, it was maybe a mile at most, and that was all that was needed to discover what this car was capable of.
Skillfully our man Vince took me out for a spin, and literally between two round-a-bouts on a good fast main road, we topped 160mph and back. The acceleration was incredible, warning me to sit back in my seat, he dropped the throttle to the max, and the car without the slightest lack of grip just took off. Thos huge fat tyres gripped the road like its life depended on it.
The performance of this car was truly unbelievable. And the power was being increased at that time. It went on to be an even more disturbing beast.
And damn those pop up headlights looked good on it.
